Tech Data A/NZ Ushers in Leadership Transition as Andy Berry Retires, Robbie Upcroft Steps Up

Global IT distributor Tech Data, part of TD Synnex, is preparing for a major leadership transition in its Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) operations, with Andy Berry set to retire as Vice President and Country General Manager on 4 July 2025. His departure marks the end of a transformative chapter in the company’s regional strategy, particularly across cloud, cybersecurity, and data analytics.

Berry brought over two decades of leadership experience into the role when he joined Tech Data in 2020, after stints at Ricoh Australia, Accenture, and Xerox Global Services. During his tenure, he led efforts to localize global investments and was a key figure in sharpening the distributor’s focus on high-growth domains including AI, hybrid infrastructure, and the as-a-service model.

In 2021, Berry laid out a vision to bring the “full power” of Tech Data’s global capability into the A/NZ market—championing multi-vendor solutions and cloud modernization for channel partners. In 2022, he doubled down on cloud consumption, managed services, and cross-selling innovation, before ultimately helping oversee the strategic acquisition of cybersecurity distributor Orca Tech in 2024. That move significantly strengthened Tech Data’s specialisation in advanced security and threat management solutions.

Stepping into the role is Robbie Upcroft, who will officially become Senior Director and A/NZ Country General Manager on 7 July. Upcroft joined Tech Data in 2023 to lead its cloud business, bringing with him deep experience from Microsoft, Insentra, McAfee, and Arrow ECS. In his first year, he has already been credited with accelerating Tech Data’s cloud strategy in the region.

“With over two decades of industry experience, we are confident that Robbie will bring a positive impact to our A/NZ operations,” said Sundaresan Kanappan, VP of Tech Data APJ and Country GM for India and A/NZ. “His strategic vision and leadership have brought our cloud business from strength to strength.”

To ensure continuity and a smooth transition, Berry and Upcroft will work closely together in the coming weeks. Tech Data emphasized that this succession is part of its long-term roadmap to deepen partner value and scale digital-first offerings in Australia and New Zealand.

Reflecting on Berry’s legacy, Kanappan added: “Andy’s contributions have helped shape a more agile, cloud-first Tech Data in A/NZ. His commitment to partner enablement and ecosystem growth has left a lasting mark.”

As the industry continues to evolve toward intelligent infrastructure, security resilience, and AI-powered transformation, Upcroft’s appointment signals Tech Data’s intention to remain at the forefront of change—equipping partners with the tools, platforms, and expertise to scale.
