When global tech giants reshape their leadership teams, it often signals a shift in priorities, partnerships, and long-term strategy. Microsoft’s latest move in Australia and New Zealand fits exactly that narrative. The company has appointed long-time channel leader Vicki Batka as its new Chief Partner Officer for A/NZ, marking a significant investment in strengthening its regional ecosystem.
A Major Addition to Microsoft’s A/NZ Leadership Bench
In a LinkedIn announcement, Batka shared her excitement about stepping into the role and reconnecting with partners across the trans-Tasman region. Her reputation precedes her—Batka has spent decades helping some of the world’s largest software and infrastructure vendors build and scale their partner networks across Asia Pacific and Japan.
Her career includes leadership roles at Adobe, CA Technologies, VMware, and SAP, giving her a broad view of how different enterprise ecosystems operate. But her most defining chapter was her seven-year journey at Cisco, where she served as:
- Managing Director, Datacentre & Virtualisation (APJ)
- Vice President, Partner Organisation (APJ)
It was during this period, she noted, that she drew on “a 30-year career, connections, and experience across nearly every type of partner and technology area” to advocate for a more partner-centric approach.
A Strategic Hire at a Strategic Moment
Batka’s arrival comes as Microsoft continues expanding its influence across enterprise, government, and industry sectors in Australia and New Zealand. Her appointment follows another high-profile leadership addition: Jane Livesey, former Cognizant APJ president, who became Microsoft’s A/NZ Managing Director in August.
Livesey now oversees regional strategy while reporting to Microsoft Asia President Rodrigo Lima, leading the company’s mission to deliver next-generation cloud, AI, and security solutions to both public and private sector organisations.
For Microsoft, bringing Batka into the fold aligns with its focus on deepening relationships across an ecosystem that spans cloud providers, integrators, ISVs, cybersecurity vendors, and national digital-transformation partners.
A Leadership Transition Across the Tech Landscape
Batka joins Microsoft during a period of significant movement among A/NZ tech executives. Her predecessor, Steven Worrall, left earlier this year to become CEO of Telstra InfraCo—another major shift within the region’s enterprise technology landscape.
In her announcement, Batka expressed gratitude to Jane Livesey, Steven Miller, Heather Gordon, Christian Barrios, and Annella Orbeta Heytens for supporting her transition into the role.
What This Means for the Region
Batka’s experience across enterprise software, cloud, security, and partner operations positions her to play a pivotal role in shaping Microsoft’s partner strategy for the next decade. Expect tighter alignment between Microsoft and its A/NZ partner ecosystem, greater focus on partner enablement, and more aggressive growth initiatives around AI, cloud modernisation, and cross-industry collaboration.
Her appointment underscores a broader trend: global tech firms continue to see the A/NZ region as a high-value, partner-driven growth market—and they’re staffing accordingly.
