Graber previously served as Bluesky’s CEO. She recently stepped back from that role to focus on building. Alongside Bluesky CTO Paul Frazee, she introduced Attie on stage at Atmosphere. Conference attendees became its first beta testers.
Under the hood, Attie runs on Anthropic’s Claude. It is an agentic AI experience built natively on Bluesky’s open infrastructure — the AT Protocol, also called atproto.
Not Part of Bluesky — A Standalone Product
Interim CEO Toni Schneider was clear about what Attie is and isn’t.
“It’s a new product — it’s not a part of the Bluesky app,” he said. Schneider also serves as a partner at True Ventures, one of Bluesky’s key investors. “This is a standalone product. It’s the first one built by Jay’s new team.”

How Attie Works

At launch, feeds built in Attie are viewable within the app itself. Soon, they will be available across Bluesky and other atproto apps as well.
The roadmap goes further. The team plans to let users vibe-code lightweight social apps through conversational prompts. Users will also be able to build tools for others inside the ecosystem. It is an ambitious vision — and it starts with something as simple as typing what you want to see.
Why Graber Stepped Back From the CEO Role
Attie’s launch reflects a bigger shift inside Bluesky. Graber stepped down as CEO to return to building. It was a deliberate choice.
“She realized there was so much more she wanted to build,” Schneider said. “Doing the CEO job kept her busy. She wanted more time.” He added: “This is her happy place. She’s an amazing leader and visionary. We want her building things — not worrying about running the company.”
Graber’s own view on AI shaped the product directly. She believes major platforms use AI to serve themselves, not their users. The goal is longer time-on-app. More data. Tighter algorithmic control.
Attie is her answer to that.
“We think AI should serve people, not platforms,” Graber said at the announcement. “An open protocol puts this power directly in users’ hands.”
$100 Million in Funding — And What It Signals

One thing is firmly off the table: crypto integration. Several Bluesky investors come from the crypto world. But Schneider was direct about their motivation.
“They were attracted to crypto because of its decentralization,” he said. “This is decentralized social. It fits those who believe in the platform and the ecosystem opportunity.” The appeal is philosophical — not financial.
The WordPress Comparison
Schneider previously served as CEO of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com. He sees a clear parallel between the Atmosphere and the WordPress ecosystem.
WordPress started as an open-source platform. It grew into a global infrastructure. Today it generates over $10 billion annually. It powers a vast network of developers, agencies, and hosting providers — all independent, all interconnected.
Schneider believes the Atmosphere can follow a similar path.
