MongoDB Appoints Alex Newman to Lead Australia and New Zealand Operations

MongoDB has appointed Alex Newman as its new Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) lead, bringing more than two decades of experience across enterprise technology, data management and telecommunications to the role.

Newman will lead MongoDB’s regional operations, working with customers to modernise their applications and bring artificial intelligence workloads into production. He will report to Richard Scott, MongoDB’s Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

His appointment follows the departure of Abi Nourai, who led MongoDB’s A/NZ business from May 2024 until January 2026.

Bringing Enterprise Data Experience to MongoDB

Newman joins MongoDB after more than nine years at Informatica, where he held senior leadership positions before and after the company’s acquisition by Salesforce. Most recently, he served as Regional Vice President for Australia and New Zealand.

His previous experience also includes roles at CenturyLink, EMC and Macquarie Telecom in Australia, as well as Computer Associates and TelecityGroup in the United Kingdom.

This background gives Newman extensive experience working with enterprise customers and technology organisations, particularly in areas connected to data and digital infrastructure.

His appointment comes as businesses look beyond AI experimentation and focus on putting AI applications into everyday operations. For organisations moving towards production-ready AI, reliable data infrastructure is an important part of making those systems useful and scalable.

Focus on AI and Customer Growth

MongoDB sees Newman’s enterprise experience and regional leadership background as valuable as more Australian and New Zealand organisations invest in AI.

Richard Scott said businesses increasingly want AI solutions that can operate at scale, deliver measurable business outcomes and rely on trusted data.

He also highlighted Newman’s experience building teams and customer relationships across the region, saying his leadership would support MongoDB as local organisations move further into the adoption of AI in production.

Newman expressed strong confidence in the opportunities ahead for businesses across Australia and New Zealand. He believes the data layer plays a central role in determining whether AI initiatives succeed, and sees MongoDB’s intelligent data platform as well positioned to support that shift.

His immediate priorities include developing the existing regional team and delivering strong outcomes for customers.

With a background spanning enterprise data, technology and regional business leadership, Newman takes on the role at a time when organisations are placing greater importance on the infrastructure needed to turn AI investment into practical business results.
