UTS taps Atturra and Denodo to simplify data access and accelerate digital transformation

In a move to streamline its data integration landscape, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has partnered with consulting and IT services provider Atturra to implement the Denodo data virtualisation platform, supporting the university’s broader digital transformation goals.

Following a competitive tender, UTS selected Denodo for its capacity to enable seamless data access across diverse systems through a virtual layer—eliminating the need for physical data movement or duplication. This logical data management approach reflects a growing shift among higher education institutions looking to modernise legacy integration models while driving agility and operational efficiency.

Petar Bielovich, director of data and analytics at Atturra, said the partnership with UTS is part of a larger trend in the sector.
“Universities are increasingly recognising the need to move beyond traditional data integration methods,” he noted. “Logical data management platforms like Denodo empower them to manage and deliver data faster, more securely, and with less complexity.”

Atturra led the tender response and worked closely with UTS throughout the platform evaluation and implementation phases, ensuring the Denodo environment was configured to support UTS’s specific data and integration priorities. Beyond deployment, Atturra will continue to support the university both strategically and operationally.

Denodo’s unified capabilities allow UTS to consolidate data integration, management, and delivery into a single platform—minimising the need for disparate tools and enabling efficiencies in staff onboarding, governance, security, and operations.

According to Jennifer Leech, senior platform manager for integration at UTS, the implementation marks a pivotal step in the university’s data strategy.
“Our focus is to democratise data access not only for IT teams but also for our educators, researchers, and administrative staff,” she explained. “Denodo allows us to create a more connected and agile data ecosystem that can adapt to the fast-evolving demands of the education sector.”

As universities globally face mounting pressure to enhance digital experiences and optimise operations, UTS’s move demonstrates how data virtualisation can serve as a foundation for smarter, more flexible data strategies.
