Advent Partners has officially acquired a stake in managed services provider efex, marking a key move to accelerate the company’s expansion and strengthen its acquisition strategy across Australia and New Zealand.
Under the new partnership, Nick Sheehan, efex’s founder, will continue to lead the company as CEO, while Advent will provide the financial backing and strategic support needed to widen its regional presence, enhance customer offerings, and drive continued growth through targeted acquisitions.
Advent Partners, which manages more than $1 billion in funds, has built a strong track record of supporting founder-led technology companies.
“We were attracted by Advent’s collaborative approach to business, which will undoubtedly drive productivity and deliver enhanced value for our customers and our people,” said Sheehan. “We have significant ambitions, and by adding one of Australia’s most experienced investment managers to our corner, we are well-positioned to build on our success.”
Since its founding in 2013, efex has grown rapidly into a national technology services provider with over 250 employees, serving 7,500 customers across 22 locations. The company offers a full suite of IT services—including cloud, cyber security, unified communications, modern workplace, business resilience, managed document solutions, and hardware provisioning—supported by an advanced professional services automation platform.
efex has been on an aggressive acquisition streak, acquiring 11 managed service providers to date, including Datcom Cloud and Medihost Solutions. Its customer base spans industries such as professional services, education, healthcare, mining, and local government.
“efex is a unique business, combining national scale with a genuine local connection. Its commitment to customer service and its culture as a great place to work position efex as an ideal partner to drive continued consolidation within the managed IT services sector,” said Brad Lynch, Partner at Advent Partners.
With Advent’s backing, efex plans to further scale its operations and strengthen its position in the mid-market and enterprise segments, targeting both regional and metropolitan MSPs for future acquisitions.
