Macquarie Technology Promotes Luke Clifton to Director of Operations

Macquarie Technology Group has announced a leadership transition within its telecommunications business, promoting long-serving executive Luke Clifton to Director of Operations, while appointing Marija Harris as Group Executive of Macquarie Telecom.

Clifton, who has spent more than 14 years with the group, will shift his focus toward governance, board and advisory responsibilities as he enters the next phase of his career. During his tenure, he played a key role in shaping Macquarie Telecom’s evolution — from early leadership in SD-WAN to the expansion of its cyber security and cloud capabilities, as well as strengthening partnerships with vendors including VeloCloud, Fortinet, and Netskope.

Reflecting on the move, Clifton said Macquarie had been a defining chapter in his professional life, highlighting the company’s work in SD-WAN, cloud, cyber security, and its commitment to onshoring Australian jobs as key achievements.

Macquarie Technology co-founder and CEO David Tudehope credited Clifton with helping establish the group’s challenger mindset and introducing SD-WAN to the Australian market, while also building long-term customer and partner relationships.

Stepping into the group executive role, Marija Harris brings strong commercial leadership, having served as Macquarie Technology’s commercial director since July 2024. The company said Harris has been instrumental in driving strategy, financial performance, and customer growth, with a leadership style closely aligned to the group’s culture and ambitions.

Clifton will remain with the business during the transition period, supporting Harris through the handover. Macquarie Technology said the leadership changes will be rolled out progressively, alongside structured engagement with customers, partners, and employees to ensure continuity.
