Ryan Williams’ Ellis AI Raises $10M to Bring AI Automation to Private Credit Operations

Private credit is becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in financial services, but many firms still rely on disconnected systems, spreadsheets, and manual processes to manage complex investment operations.

Ellis AI aims to change that.

The startup has emerged from stealth with $10 million in seed funding, backed by First Round Capital, 645 Ventures, Harlem Capital, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital, Slow Capital, Kearny Jackson, and Ariel Alternatives CEO Mellody Hobson.

Founded by Ryan Williams, the entrepreneur behind real estate investment platform Cadre, Ellis AI is building an AI-powered operating platform designed specifically for private credit managers. The company focuses on helping firms streamline fragmented workflows without forcing them to replace the software they already use.

Bringing AI to Complex Financial Operations

Private credit firms often manage information across multiple accounting systems, spreadsheets, internal documents, and email conversations. Bringing those data sources together can consume significant time and resources.

Ellis AI addresses this challenge by connecting existing systems into a unified platform that gives investment teams easier access to critical information.

Rather than replacing existing infrastructure, the platform works alongside current software, allowing organizations to modernize operations while minimizing disruption.

AI Agents Built for Financial Workflows

The platform uses AI agents to automate repetitive operational tasks that traditionally require significant manual effort.

These include portfolio monitoring, identifying data inconsistencies, preparing reports, reconciling financial information, and supporting month-end closing processes.

According to Williams, many firms still depend heavily on Excel to coordinate financial operations. Ellis AI is designed to reduce that dependency by automating routine workflows while improving data visibility across teams.

Keeping Human Decision-Making at the Center

Although Ellis AI automates operational work, the company emphasizes that investment decisions remain under human control.

Williams believes AI should help professionals process information faster rather than replace their expertise.

By reducing administrative work, investment teams can spend more time evaluating opportunities, managing portfolios, and making informed decisions instead of manually reconciling data.

Built by a Founder with Private Markets Experience

Williams previously co-founded Cadre, the real estate investment platform that raised more than $160 million before being acquired by Yieldstreet in 2024.

His experience building technology for alternative investments shaped the vision behind Ellis AI.

Instead of focusing on investor-facing products, Ellis AI targets the operational infrastructure that powers private credit firms behind the scenes.

AI Continues Expanding Across Enterprise Finance

The launch of Ellis AI reflects a broader shift toward AI-powered enterprise software built for specialized financial markets.

Rather than delivering general-purpose AI tools, startups are increasingly developing industry-specific platforms capable of automating highly regulated and document-intensive workflows.

As private credit continues to expand globally, platforms like Ellis AI are positioning themselves to become part of the digital infrastructure that supports faster, more efficient investment operations while keeping human expertise at the center of decision-making.
