Vocus has taken a decisive step into the enterprise mobility market with the launch of Vocus Mobile, a business-focused MVNO that runs on Optus’ 4G and 5G networks. The move expands Vocus’ portfolio beyond its fibre, private networks, and LEO satellite offerings, positioning the company as a full-spectrum connectivity provider for Australian enterprises.
At the core of the new service is a self-service platform designed to give IT teams greater autonomy over large-scale mobile fleet management. Businesses can port multiple numbers at once, order SIMs in bulk, activate hundreds of users simultaneously, and automatically allocate service costs to cost centres. The system also enables configuration of global roaming on either a per-user or fleet-wide basis, with real-time usage alerts built in.
Shifting Control to the Enterprise
According to Jarrod Nink, Chief Executive of Enterprise and Government, Wholesale and Infrastructure at Vocus, the service is designed to eliminate the bottlenecks enterprises often face with traditional telco processes.
“For too long, Australian businesses have had to choose between major operators with limited fleet management flexibility, costly partner-managed services, or consumer-grade MVNOs that don’t meet enterprise needs. Vocus Mobile changes that by giving customers direct control,” Nink said.
The company has confirmed that pricing will be tailored to enterprise requirements—taking into account service volumes, shared data pools, and specific business needs. Offers will also be structured in response to tenders and RFPs, signalling a clear focus on large-scale corporate adoption.
Building on an Established Partnership
This is not the first time Vocus has leveraged an MVNO model through Optus. The two companies previously collaborated in 2016 on mobile agreements covering Vocus subsidiaries including Dodo, iPrimus, and Commander, with extensions signed in 2018. The launch of Vocus Mobile, however, marks the first time the model has been applied squarely to the enterprise sector.
By combining Optus’ nationwide mobile infrastructure with Vocus’ expertise in enterprise connectivity, the company is aiming to carve out a differentiated position in Australia’s increasingly competitive telecom landscape.
The Bottom Line
With Vocus Mobile, enterprises gain an MVNO tailored to their scale and complexity—an alternative to both the major network operators and consumer-grade MVNOs. The move underscores Vocus’ ambition to broaden its role as a strategic connectivity partner, offering businesses end-to-end services from fibre and satellite to mobile.
